help with 1st gun purchase
Hi all,
Although I have used guns in the past, and understand how to operate/use them, this was mostly at my friends estate for target practice. I am looking to purchase something for myself and I am looking for help. Can anyone give some recommendations for a shotgun and a rifle? Should I get a semi-auto shotgun? What about a rifle? These will primarily be used for protection @ home and target practice at a range. thanks. |

Yeah. Yeah...
Get the semi auto shot gun! Those are cool! :ok: |
Re: help with 1st gun purchase
Shotgun = Benelli Super Nova or Benelli Semi Auto
You'll here Mossberg 590 and Remington 870, but do look at the Benelli or a Saiga 12 gauge. For Rifles: Springfield M1A, caliber .308 Take everything I say with a grain of salt, I'm a newbie. But I've done my research and homework for over a year, and own plenty of firearms now. There are people here with much more experience with firearms. DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK!!!!!!!! Buy this book: http://www.javelinpress.com/bostons_gun_bible.html GUY CAN'T WRITE WORTH A DAMN, BUT THE INFO IN INVALUABLE! |

Re: help with 1st gun purchase
Shotgun, get an HK Benelli M1 Super 90...very light, fast and 8 shot in semi auto.
Rifle, get a Ruger Mini 14 in .223, very new gun owner friendly, easy to clean, compact and easy to handle. 20rd magazines (not a tack driver but plenty accurate) You'll love them both! |

I was about to say the same thing......... You cant even get pistol ammo mailed to you in the five burroughs. The restrictions they place on you are unprecendented. I think you have to pay almost 400 bucks a year to keep them registered and they will snacth them( come to your house) if you for get to pay. Nasty place to try and get armmed. If you got your stuff Get yourself a glock (toyota of handguns) 870 should do just fine. T |
Re: help with 1st gun purchase
If your looking for a rifle a AR15 is an excellent platform to start on.
It also depends on the laws in your state. Find a gun website that is structured to your state and its laws if your not familiar with them first. I have 5 of these very happy with them. As far as a handgun I would suggest a Sig Sauer P229 40SW if you can afford it that is. http://goldismoney.info/forums/attac...1&d=1225304828 |

Pistol is near impossible - you have to prove that you either need it for your job, or prove that you move around lots of cash (or similar) daily. |

Re: help with 1st gun purchase
I recommend researching ammunition, find one you like the price/performance of that is well suited to your needs, then find a gun that you like that fires it.
I bought my first gun based on the reputation of 7.62x25 for poking holes in kevlar for example. I bought my second gun because you don't have a gun collection until you have an AK. I like surplus slavshit because the price is right and the value is high. Ammo is cheap, guns are cheap, guns are reliable, did I mention the guns are cheap? I have no regrets on my first gun so I'm gonna recommend it to you: CZ-52. Buy a 9mm barrel, a new slide assembly, and some extra magazines, and you can change calibers as fast as a magazine change. PM me for a source for 9mm barrels. |
